Plumelisse remains a web application: you never have to install anything to use it. But with version 2, you can now choose to install it on your computer, smartphone or tablet thanks to Progressive Web App, or PWA, technology.

**Once installed, Plumelisse gets its own icon and launches in a dedicated window, just like a traditional application.** This gives you more direct access to your writing workspace, without first opening your browser and finding Plumelisse among your tabs.

What is a PWA?

A Progressive Web App is an application built with web technologies while integrating more closely with your device. There is therefore no need to download Plumelisse from an App Store, the Microsoft Store or the Mac App Store.

You continue to use the same account, projects and writing workspace. The main difference is how you access Plumelisse: depending on your device, an icon can be added to your Home Screen, desktop, Dock or application menu.

The installed application also opens in its own window, providing a cleaner experience than a traditional browser tab.

An Internet connection is still required

Installing Plumelisse does not turn the application into an offline text editor.

Your projects, chapters, notes, characters and other data are not saved in the browser cache to make them available offline. This is intentional: among other things, it avoids creating an additional persistent copy of your writing in the browser's local storage on your device.

**Installing Plumelisse therefore gives you the convenience of an application without changing the way your writing is stored.**

If you launch Plumelisse without an Internet connection, your manuscripts will not be accessible until the connection is restored.

Install Plumelisse on Windows with Chrome

Google Chrome lets you install Plumelisse directly from the browser.

  1. Sign in to Plumelisse with Chrome and open your writing workspace.

  2. Click the installation icon when it appears on the right side of the address bar.

  3. If the icon is not visible, open the Chrome menu, select Cast, save and share, then Install page as app.

  4. Confirm the installation.

Plumelisse then appears among your Windows applications and can be launched in its own window. You can also create a shortcut or pin it to the taskbar for even faster access.

Install Plumelisse on Windows with Microsoft Edge (and other Chromium browser, ex.: Brave)

Microsoft Edge also provides native support for web applications.

  1. Open Plumelisse in Edge and go to your writing workspace.

  2. Use the installation icon in the address bar when available.

  3. Alternatively, open the … menu, go to More tools, then Apps, and choose the option to install the site as an application.

  4. Confirm the installation.

Plumelisse can then be launched from Windows like your other applications and pinned to the Start menu or taskbar.

Install Plumelisse on Mac with Chrome

The process is very similar to Windows.

  1. Open Plumelisse in Chrome.

  2. Go to your writing workspace.

  3. Click the installation icon in the address bar or open the Chrome menu.

  4. Select Cast, save and share, then Install page as app.

  5. Confirm.

Plumelisse will then open in an independent window and can be launched directly from macOS.

Install Plumelisse on Mac with Safari

Safari can also turn Plumelisse into a web app on recent versions of macOS.

  1. Open Plumelisse in Safari.

  2. Go to your writing workspace.

  3. From the menu bar, choose File, then Add to Dock. You can also use the Share button and select Add to Dock.

  4. Confirm.

The Plumelisse icon is then available in your Dock and among your applications. You can simply click it whenever you want to open your workspace in a dedicated window.

This feature is available from macOS Sonoma 14 onward.

Install Plumelisse on Android

On an Android smartphone or tablet, Chrome lets you add Plumelisse as an application.

  1. Open Plumelisse in Chrome and sign in.

  2. Tap the ⋮ menu next to the address bar.

  3. Select Install and create shortcut, then Install.

  4. Follow the instructions displayed by Android.

A Plumelisse icon is added to your device. You can then launch the application directly from your Home Screen or app list.

Install Plumelisse on iPhone or iPad

On iPhone and iPad, installation is done through Safari.

  1. Open Plumelisse in Safari and go to your writing workspace.

  2. Tap the Share button.

  3. Select Add to Home Screen.

  4. If available, enable Open as Web App.

  5. Tap Add.

The Plumelisse icon then appears on your Home Screen alongside your other applications.

Opening it from this icon launches Plumelisse as a dedicated web app rather than a regular Safari tab.

What if the installation option does not appear?

The way a PWA is installed depends on your browser and operating system. Some versions display an installation icon directly, while others place the option inside their menu.

If no installation option appears, first make sure your browser is up to date. You can also try Chrome or Edge on Windows, Chrome or Safari on Mac, Chrome on Android, and Safari on iPhone or iPad.

The regular browser version always remains available: installing Plumelisse is an additional option, never a requirement.

Why install Plumelisse?

If you use Plumelisse regularly, the PWA mainly reduces the distance between your idea and your writing workspace.

There is no need to find the right bookmark or browser tab: your writing project can be accessible directly from your desktop or Home Screen.

Installing Plumelisse gives you:

  • a Plumelisse icon directly on your device;

  • faster access to your writing workspace;

  • a dedicated window separated from your other browser tabs;

  • an experience closer to a traditional application;

  • the exact same projects and data you already use in the browser.

**You can therefore continue using Plumelisse exactly as before, or install it on each of your devices for more direct access to your writing environment.**
